Technology, Chandigarh Administration & CEO-SPIC did the honors. He distributed
the Certificates to the participants and he appreciated organizing such training
programs and assured to conduct such more training programs in the future. He urged
participants to give their feedback and suggestions which will help in improving
the future trainings. This program was attended by prison and police officers from
Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab and
Himachal. This was a special training program where officers were trained on computer
skills and were also trained to handle cyber crime.
In computer skills session they under went practical sessions on windows explorer, M.S. Word, Excel, Power Point and information about Internet and using E-Mail and in cyber crime session Mr. Sanjeev Kalra, Deputy Inspector General Pujab, Chandigarh took an exclusive session on knowledge management on November 14, 2006, Kn. Vijay Partap Singh, SSP & DIG prisons, Amritsar, Punjab took an interesting and informative session on Investigating Cyber Crime: Case study on November 15, 2006 and a special session on Indian Laws and Cyber Crimes with emphasis on the Information Technology Act, 2000 was taken by Dr. Deepa Singh, Advocate Pb. & Hr. High Court Chandigarh on November 15, 2006. Session on Cyber Crime at SPICIn an ongoing one week special training organized by Department of IT, Chandigarh Administration through SPIC in association with Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh at SPIC on Computer Skills and Cyber Crimes programme, a very interesting and informative session on Cyber Crime was taken by Kn. Vijay Pratap Singh SSP-cum-DIG Prisons, Amritsar, Punjab on investigating Cyber Crime on Oct 15., 2006 at SPIC. Kn. Vijay Pratap Singh is the first IPS officer who solved first cyber crime case in 2002 in Amritsar. In the session he shared his cyber crime case study with the prison and police officers who are attending this special training at SPIC. He explained in a very simplified manner to track a cyber crime case by sharing his case study experiences. He also gave live demonstration and provided very vital information to track the information of cyber criminal and to track them down through very easy steps. He emphasis on the usage of cyber services by the prison officers to make the normal functioning of the prison convenient for them and for the visitors e.g. by booking of visiting timings at prison by visitors through e-mail which will save precious time of visitors and prison authorities. He during his session also emphasized on the seriousness of the cyber crime and also stressed on its awareness which is more important. Speaking on awareness he said that it is one of the important components in erasing the cyber crime from our society. He was of the view that if more and more section of the society is made aware of the cyber crime and cyber laws only then this problem can be easily handled. After the session Kn. Vijay Pratap Singh also replied the various queries of the prison and police officers about cyber crime. Apart from the Prison and police officers the session was also attended by Dr. Upneet Lallii, Deputy Director Insititute of Correctional Administration and Mr. Anil K. Prashar, Centre Head –SPIC.
Training programme on Computer and Cyber Crime at SPICChandigarh : The Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh
Administration, through the Society for the Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC)
and in collaboration with the Institute for Correctional Administrationon November
13 began a week long training programme on Computer and Cyber Crimes at the SPIC
Centre, PEC Campus, Chandigarh. The training programme is part of the initiative
to create awareness on issues related to cyber security and is meant for officers
of the Department of Prisons from all Indian states.
Cyber Security Centre at PECChandigarh Administration in association with NASSCOM and Punjab Engineering College will be establishing Regional Cyber Security Research Centre at PEC, Chandigarh. The primary focus of RCSRC is to conduct high quality research in the areas of network security, wireless technology, performance optimization in Networking and providing consultancy at affordable costs. The technical consultancy will be provided by NASSCOM and the funding to the project will be by Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh, which will be done through Society for Promotioni of Information Technology, Chandigarh. Chandigarh makes an aggressive tech pitchBangalore : The action on the It front is hotting up in Chandigarh, with the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park (RGCTP) receiving SEZ status recently. With a total investment of $150 million by the Chandigarh Administration and private companies, the Department of It, Chandigarh is expecting investments to the tune of $600 million and employment potential for 25,000 people, when the park is completed and fully operational. Briefing reporters on the city's advantages for It companies to set up shop, Majjit Singh Brar, Director IT, Chandigarh, who was here to participate in IT.in said : "Chandigarh is number one in the country in terms of Human Development Index, is home to 9 lakh people with a high literacy rate of 82 percent." Elaborating he said, global tech majors such as IBM, Quark, Juniper, Dell, SAP, Toshiba and Mobera along with home-grown powerhoses such as Infosys have already set up shop here. Tech Mahindra is about to commence operations, Wipro is the anchor company for Phase-II of RGCTP and Satyam has asked for 200 acres of land." Software exports from Chandigarh and Mohali totals to $100 million per annum today, and we expect it to grew to $450 million in three years, said Sanjay Tyagi, Additional Director & Centre Head, STPI. "We have three locations to offer IT companies - Mohali, Panchkula and Chandigarh. We have applied for an extension of SEZ status to Phase-III of RGCTP as well" he added. Discussions are on to put Chandigarh on WIMAX and a first-of-its-kind cyber Security REsearch Centre is being set up along with Nasscom. A @3.5 million Entrepreneur Development Centre is also being set up. "We see RGTCP as an important contributor in the It corridor formed by Gurgaon, Noida and Chandigarh. With 40-50 per cent cost advantages in comparison to Tier-I cities like Bangalore and Gurgaon, we are confident about establishing Chandigarh as a cost competitive location in North India" enthused Mr.Brar. UT-SPIC selected field centre for Edusat The Chandigarh Administration and Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC),
has been selected by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India
as a field centre for the installation of Satellite Interactive Terminals (SITs)
under the EDUSAT Project of Government of India.
Special c-Toss Program for UT VillagesC-Toss program was very well received by the schools and looking at the success and heartening response to this program it has been extended to the 15 schools of UT Villages. This program has been launched by SPIC under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration for the regular students of 15 schools in UT villages. This program has been designed specially keeping in mind the skill sets level of the students in the non English medium speaking schools. This C-Toss program will be a comprehensive program where first students will be given training to improve their basic English level and then they will be gradually upgraded to the existing C-Toss School program. the program will improve communication skills of the High and Higher Secondary level students and will also expose them to soft skills along with Basic English grammar course. This program is meant to upgrade the basic understanding of English language and also the spoken English skill-sets which will enable students to achieve skill sets required in a global work environment. Durations of this program will be of 80 hrs tentatively 4 months and the classes will be conducted for one hour daily in Schools. SPIC has also started special program of C-Toss in all 17 villages of UT especially for school dropouts, graduates, housewives, and retired people. Classes are being run for this section after school hours. First NAC-Test conducted in Chandigarh.SPIC under the aegis of Department of Information Technology in association with NASSCOM "Chamber of Commerce" for the Indian IT Industry conducted NAC (NASSCOM Assessment of Competence) on April 2, 2006 for the final year students of the C-Toss Colleges. This NAC test was a national level Assessment test for BPO Industry which will be a part of C-Toss program. NASSCOM in association with Hewitt associates and through extensive industry participation has created an Assessment and Certification Program which becomes industry standard nationally and ensures the transformation of a "trainable" workforce into an employable workforce. This NAC Test certification will be recognized nationally by BPO industry. |
