C-TOSS: Chandigarh - Training On Soft Skills
The objective of the Policy is to make Chandigarh a major center for IT Enabled
Services, by attracting a substantially large share of the ITES industry in India
and to enrich the skill sets of the Youth of the Union Territory to provide them
with high level employment and to enable high quality delivery of IT Enabled Services.
Colleges
Chandigarh Training on Soft Skills (C-TOSS) program is an initiative of
Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration. The objective of
the Policy is to make Chandigarh a major center for IT Enabled Services, by attracting
a substantially large share of the ITES industry in India and to enrich the skill
sets of the Youth of the Union Territory to provide them with high level employment
and to enable high quality delivery of IT Enabled Services.
To further strengthen the objective of making Chandigarh a Technology hub, In July
2004 the Society for Promotion of Information Technology in Chandigarh (SPIC) under
the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration took
the initiative to start C-TOSS: Chandigarh Training on Soft Skills programme to
develop skilled professionals for the ITES/BPO sector. This program has two models
one is the college model and the second is school model. Under the college model
a very specialized program is designed and there are programs with different durations
and selection for a particular training course will depend on the current skill
level of the student. These programs are conducted on optional basis for students
of the respective colleges and students have to pay for this program and the fee
is very nominal. SPIC under the aegis of Department of IT, Chandigarh Administration
has signed up with Topnotch BPO Industry i.e Wipro BPO Solutions, DELL etc under
the MOU Industry will help SPIC in implementing the program and would give would
also give employment to the C-TOSS trained candidates.
SPIC conduct C-TOSS test on a quarterly basis, which is mandatory for all C-TOSS
candidates in order to clear the program. Its a complete objective and a web base
online test which has been approved by Industry like DELL. Students who clear the
C-TOSS test gets a C-TOSS score card which is recognized by the BPO Industry in
this region. This test is also open for outsiders i.e professionals, Housewives,
retired people who want to get their soft skills certified. SPIC has conducted 5
C-TOSS Test till date and examinations centre for which are C-TOSS colleges and
SPIC Centre of Excellence.
